Dental veneers
Dental veneers, also known as dental laminates, are the pinnacle of aesthetic dentistry as they enhance the smile without any tooth preparation or with minimal tooth filing, depending on the type of veneers being made. Not everyone is a candidate for these dental prosthetic replacements. It is necessary for a patient to come in for an examination to determine if the veneers can be placed on their teeth.
Dental prosthetics continue to advance each year, providing increasingly advanced techniques and materials for creating tooth replacements that fulfill two basic criteria at the same time:
- function
- aesthetics.
At Miličić Dent Polyclinic, we create high-quality dental prosthetics in our highly sophisticated dental laboratory. Our dental technicians fabricate crowns, bridges, dentures and dental veneers to replace missing teeth, ensure proper bite functionality and achieve smile aesthetics.
What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers are thin composite or ceramic shells, also known as (dental) facets, placed on the front surface of teeth, effectively changing and enhancing the smile.
Veneers or ceramic laminates are resistant to tooth discoloration caused by constant consumption of coffee, tea, tobacco, etc.
They are mostly used to cover the front teeth in the smile zone, but thanks to the strength and durability of the material, they can also be placed on posterior teeth.
They can successfully correct:
- tooth color,
- tooth shape,
- tooth length,
- tooth width,
- gaps between front teeth.
If smile aesthetics is a priority for you and you are a candidate for dental veneers, we will recommend them for several reasons.
Advantages of dental veneers
- By choosing the right color, shape and size of dental veneers, a natural tooth appearance can be achieved.
- Dental veneers will give you a Hollywood smile.
- They can simultaneously correct multiple aspects: tooth color, shape, length, width and gaps between teeth, i.e. diastema.
- Ceramic veneers require minimal tooth filing, preserving healthy tooth structure.
- Non-prep veneers do not require tooth grinding; they are simply bonded to the front surface of the tooth.
- Dental veneers adhere well to the gumline without causing irritation.
- They do not leave a dark margin near the gumline like metal-ceramic crowns or bridges.
- They preserve the structure of the natural tooth.
- In some cases, dental veneers are a much faster alternative for minor irregularities in tooth position and gaps compared to lengthy orthodontic treatments.
Who is a candidate for dental veneers?
- Dental veneers can be applied to patients with healthy (vital, intact) teeth, meaning teeth with live nerves and no composite or amalgam fillings.
- If you have irregular teeth and do not wish to wear a traditional metal orthodontic appliance, dental veneers can successfully visually correct (cover) minor irregularities and gaps between teeth.
- Dental veneers can also be an excellent choice for individuals with tooth defects, such as discoloration caused by medication or chipped teeth.
Types of dental veneers
Depending on the preparation method, dental veneers can be categorized as:
- veneers: minimal tooth grinding is performed.
- Lumineers or non-prep veneers: they are cemented without prior tooth grinding.
Depending on the material used, dental veneers can be categorized as:
- composite veneers: made of composite material used for white fillings (dental restorations); they are fabricated in the dental office during a single visit.
- ceramic or glass-ceramic veneers: because of their light-transmitting property, they closely resemble the natural enamel of teeth, providing exceptional aesthetics; they are fabricated in a dental laboratory based on a digital impression of the teeth, and the process requires at least two visits.
In order to provide our patients with a long-lasting solution that will offer excellent aesthetics and function, we exclusively create ceramic veneers at Miličić Dent Polyclinic.

Note!
Composite veneers are not a permanent solution and cannot be compared in terms of quality to ceramic veneers. They can discolor, are not transparent, wear relatively quickly, and may detach from the tooth surface at the edges.vima.
Protocol
In most cases, only two visits are sufficient for the fabrication and placement of ceramic dental veneers.
- Diagnostics.
- Photography the smile before treatment for medical documentation (case study).
- Local anesthesia is applied when fabricating ceramic dental veneers. Anesthesia is not used in the case of non-prep veneers as there is no need to grind the teeth.
- We remove up to 0.5 mm of tooth enamel. We minimally grind the teeth compared to the fabrication of dental crowns.
- Taking impression of the teeth.
- The impression is sent to the laboratory.
- Temporary veneers are made for smile aesthetics and protection of the ground teeth. Ground teeth may react to hot and cold, which is a common reaction due to the removal of the enamel surface layer.
- Veneer fitting.
- Veneers are applied to the teeth using special cements.
- Photography the smile after treatment (case study).
Is tooth grinding for dental veneers painful?
The procedure is painless because, in the case of ceramic veneers, only a minimal amount of tooth grinding is done, and everything is performed under local anesthesia. In the case of non-prep veneers, local anesthesia is not necessary because the teeth are not ground.
